The Lee Story begins in Kansas, when Henry David Lee founded the H. D. Lee company in 1889. Recognizing the benefits of producing work clothes such as overalls, jackets and dungarees, Lee set out to manufacture the Lee Union – All work jumpsuit. Legend has it that the idea originated with H. D. Lee himself, who realized the need of a sturdy one-piece outfit that could easily be pulled over uniforms to protect workers from the dirt of their work. The Lee Union – All consisted of a jacket and a pair of work pants sewn together at the waist, designed exclusively for workers.
