Pokiri completes 175 days

Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri officially becomes all time biggest grocer in Tollywood. The film has successfully completed 175 days run in 63 centers on October 19, 2006. It broke the record of Simhadri’s. According an estimate it collected about Rs 46 Crores thereby standing at top position.

More than this irrelevant issue of centres, the film's collections are by any standard very unique and its collections were consistent for more than 100 days.

Says Puri Jagannadh: “I am still wonderstruck of Pokiri’s success. It has surpassed everyone’s expectations.”

When asked about the function of the film’s success, he said, “we would definitely celebrate it with the fans and public but the venue and time has not yet been decided.”

Mahesh Babu in Hindi Pokiri

Mahesh Babu will soon make his Bollywood debut. Director Puri Jagannadh today (Wednesday, October 18, 2006) declared that Mahesh Babu is playing the lead role in his Hindi version of Pokiri too.

“Yes, we have decided to cast him for Hindi version also. He alone can give justice to that role,” he told the media persons at his Vaishno Academy office.

Ram Gopal Varma is producing it in Hindi, while Puri directs the film. It will go to the sets next year.

Gopichand-Bujji's film to roll on from October 25

Gopichand, who earned a mass image with the successes of 'Yagnam and Ranam' is playing hero in a film to be produced by Nallamalupu Srinivas (Bujji), who gave a massive hit like 'Lakshmi' with Venkatesh.

The film would have Sri Vasu as the debutant director and it is most likely to be rolled from October 25.

Tentatively, 'Lakshyam' is the title confirmed for the film, the sources from the film industry say. Gopichand's latest flick 'Raraju' is all set for release on October 20.

'Munna' to be released in March

'Dil' Raju had completed a hat-trick with the successive hits like 'Dil', 'Arya' and 'Bhadra'. He was planning for another hat-trick and achieved the first hit in the form of 'Bommarillu'.

Now his second film 'Munna' with Young Rebel Star Prabhas as hero and Ileana as heroine is on sets.

The film is being directed by a debutant director Vamsi. This heavy budget film which is being made on the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations had completed 50 per cent shoot so far. The producer is planning to release the film in March 2007 as a summer special.

It may be recalled that almost all the films by 'Dil' Raju's were released as summer specials and proved big hits.

Hope this film would become a big hit and change 'Dil' Raju's name as 'Summer' Raju. Harris Jayaraj is providing music for this prestigious film.

Sivaji completes 70 per cent shoot

'Sivaji' starring the south Indian Super Star Rajinikanth, Shreya had completed 70 per cent of the film shoot.

Sensational director Shankar, who brought out excellent films like 'Gentleman, Oke Okkadu, Bharateeyudu and Aparichitudu' is directing the film and the film is being produced on the banner of prestigious AVM banner.

This heavy budget film is most likely to hit the screen on the Tamil New Year's Day that is slated after five months.

Another speciality of the film is that it has an excellent musical support from A R Rehman.

'Sainikudu' audio function on October 21

The audio of 'Sainikudu' directed by Gunasekhar and produced by C Aswinidutt on the banner of Vyjayanti Studios Pvt Ltd with Mahesh Babu and Trisha in the lead was released in the form of ring-tones in Hyderabad on October 17.

Harris Jayaraj had provided extraordinary music for the film and the complete audio would be released amidst several prominent film personalities on October 21 as a Diwali gift to the Telugu audiences in general and Prince Mahesh Babu fans in particular.

The producer is planning to release the film on November 22.

Jadoo climax- re shoot?

A M Ratnam has disappointed with Tamil version of Jadoo (KD in Tamil). A M Ratnam's elder son Jyothikrishna directed and younger son Ravikrishna led the show with Ileana and Tamanna. But the film is a disappointment at box office.

Now Ratnam is changing the climax of the film for Telugu version and re-shooting the some part of the film.

Allu's Deshamuduru to release on 14th December.

Allu Arjun's Deshamuduru will be released on 14th of December instead of 22ne of December. Pawan Kalyan's Annavaram is releasing on 29th of December. Just to maintain two weeks difference between these two films, Deshamuduru is to release on 14th October.

Sivaji songs unveiled

This could be the opening song of the movie. Though it was decided earlier not to have Rajini’s entry into the movie with an introductory song, Shankar is contemplating with the thought of reinstating one such song. That could be it.

Pokiri -175 days in 63 centers.

Poori's Pokiri creating sensation at box office and the film was released with 180 prints in the beginning and added 45 prints after a week's time.

Now the film is heading towards 175days in 63 centers. It is re-writing all the records of 75 years Telugu film Industry. Jr NTR's Simhadri ran for 175 days in 55 centers.

Mahesh Babu and Ileana are leading the show and Maniratnam has composed the scores for the film.

'Stalin' on top, but sliding back

Hyderabad, Oct 6 (IANS) After a record-breaking opening collection of Rs.130 million in the first five days, Chiranjeevi's 'Stalin' is losing its magic at box office. However, it still stays at the top of the list this fortnight.

The top five Telugu films are:

1. 'Stalin' - The film had a great opening despite the awkward fusion of a social message with commercial ingredients.

2. 'Boss' - After devotional hit 'Sri Ramadasu', Nagarjuna draws good openings for his latest feel-good entertainer. But director V.N. Adithya has failed to translate it into a super hit flick.

3. 'Andala Ramudu' - Comedian Sunil with his pranks and dancing has launched himself as a saleable hero. Mega Supergood Films Pvt. Ltd makes a comeback with this village-centric story.

4. 'Bommarillu' - A hectic publicity campaign keeps the film going well in cities, but it is tottering in B and C centres. Actors Siddharth and Genelia ignite screen with their magic presence and Prakash Raj proves his calibre once again.

5. 'Pokiri' - The industry's biggest ever grosser is still going strong after 150 days.

Stalin- is it not 100% Murugadoss's script?

Yes, it is heard that Murugadoss was given a chance to direct Megastar after going through the Murugadoss's script. But as for the unconfirmed sources, without the consent of the director Muruga, Puruchuru brothers added their own story to Stalin. With this Murugadoss left to Chennai in the middle of the shoot and complained there at Film Chamber on producer Nagababu.

Even the climax was shot by a Telugu director instead of Muruga.

Anyway, these rumors are helpful to Muruga as the film is already running towards empty box offices in the third week of its release.

Insecurity feeling is making the producers of Tollywood to release their films in large number of prints. They want to get back their money in a week's time from the release. Stalin with 400 prints and Boss with 300 prints might benefit the producer.

Four films for Diwali release

The Telugu film industry is in the habit of releasing films season-wise. Especially most of the films would be released either during Sankranthi or Dasara.

However, in Tamil Nadu preference would be given to Diwali. It seems the Telugu industry is following in the footsteps of the Tamil Nadu as almost four films are hitting the screen as Diwali gifts. 'Aadhi Lakshmi' directed by Suresh Varma with Srikanth, Naveen Vadde and Sridevi is being released as a mass entertainer.

Lyricist Kulasekhar turned a director and made 'Premalekha Raasaa..' with Venkat Mallidi and Anjali as the lead pair.

Another film 'Raaraju' is getting ready for Diwali release with GVG Raju as producer and family films director Udayashankar wielding the megaphone with action hero Gopichand, Meera Jasmine and Ankitha in the lead.

Besides these three films, another film 'Maya Bazaar' directed by Indraganti Mohanakrishna with Bhoomika and Raja playing the lead is also slated for release.

In addition two more films are also likely to be released during the season. In fact some of these films are supposed to be released during the Dasara festivities, but were postponed and are ready for release as part of Diwali and Ramzan celebrations

Sunil gets stardom as hero

Sunil reached Hyderabad from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district to become a film artiste. He roamed around the studios and production offices along with his friend Akella Srinivas. Sunil had promised his mother that he would enter the film industry and earn a good position within three years.

Otherwise, he assured her that he would return to Bhimavaram. Though Sunil got several small time roles in films, he could not get enough recognition. However, he got a good opportunity in 'Nuvve Kavali' as comedian wherein he earned a good name as Rs 100-Babai.

From then onwards, there was no looking back for this comedian and Sunil became one of the top 10 comedians in the Telugu film industry with successive hits like 'Chirunavvu', 'Nuvvu-Nenu', 'Manasantha Nuvve' and 'Nuvvu Naaku Nachav'.

Sunil believed that 'Hard work would always pay', which pushed him further in the film industry and he became a hero with 'Andala Ramudu'. The film, produced on the banner of Mega Super Good Films, has become the biggest ever news in the film trade as it continued a steady collections right from the day one.

Though the film completed 50 days, the flow of audiences remained steady. Sunil's performance dominated the glamour of Arthi Agarwal also and his dances reminded of Mega Star Chiranjeevi.

Several producers were surprised at the performance and dancing capabilities of Sunil. His film 'Andala Ramudu' had collected crores of rupees to his producers and made the top producers to turn their head towards Sunil.

Though Sunil is busy as a comedian, he is getting good offers from various producers to play hero in their films. However, Sunil is said to have decided to tread a careful path instead of hurrying with the offers. He reportedly agreed to do a film under the direction of his friend Trivikram Srinivas immediately.

Nagendra Babu is MAA president

K Nagendra Babu, popular producer and brother of Mega Star Chiranjeevi, has been unanimously elected as president of Movie Artistes Association (MAA) for 2006-08. Earlier, he was the vice-president of MAA. Nagendra Babu is the one who had lots of concern over the fellow human-beings in general and the film industry workers in particular. He has a kind heart to understand the problems faced by the people and always tries to extend a helping hand to the needy.

One can't find any ego or inhibition in Nagababu, though he was a big producer, actor and brother of Mega Star Chiranjeevi. 'Sainikudu' completes talkie part shoot

After giving a sensational hit film like 'Pokiri', Mahesh Babu is acting in 'Sainikudu'. The film has high expectations both among his fans as well as the general public. Nag's 'Boss, I love You'.

Producer Siva Prasad Reddy is making this film with Nagarjuna, Nayanatara and Poonam Bajwa in the lead. V N Aditya is directing the film.

Film's shoot is going on in Malaysia right now and 75% of shoot will be completed with this schedule. Final schedule will begin in Hyderabad from 1st of August and the film completes its shoot by 25th of August.

Asin to replace Kamilini in 'Aata'.

M S Raju's Aata with hero Siddhrtha will go to floors from September. Now the heroine Kamilini is replaced by Asin as Kamilini's remuneration is not within the reach of the producer.

Deshamuduru with Himalayan Backdrop.

Poori's Deshamuduru with Allu Arjun is all set to commence its regular shoot from 28th of July in Hyderabad. After Happy disappointment, Allu Arjun is facing the camera after 7 months.

The second schedule of the film will be done at Himalaya mountains of Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal. Most of the shoot will be done at hill stations of Himalaya.

Hansika, a new heroine from Mumbai is playing female lead in the film. Chakri is composing the scores for the film.

Ashok trade report

Ashok has a long way to go. NTR's recent release ashok got mixed reviews and reports on the release day. Trade pundits guessed this film will definitely hit the bull's eye as there wasn't much competition. But on first monday after the film got released, Ashok's collections dropped drastically. Especially in Nizam and Ceded areas the film's collections started drifting down, but whereas east and west areas are still having encouraging collections. Now the producer needs to wake up and start promoting the film on a large scale scale or Ashok may end up as just a four week film, as per the recent estimations.

Teja to direct MS Raju son

MS Raju widely known as mega maker is all set to launch his son Sumanth Aswin on a large scale. Highly placed sources say that Sumanth is being launched in the direction of star director Teja. Viewers trouble Surender

Ashok director Surender Reddy was not at all comfortable in a live show aired by a private channel. In this show most of the calls were against him, questioning about his inability to inject comedy into the film. Generally in these kind of live shows callers speak highly about the film. Here the case is different. Now according to highly placed sources those calls were intentional. and guess why, because there was one unwanted sattire by the hero aimed at a leading hero in this film. So the fans of his took this chance to rip off the director not directly, but atleast on phone. Good revenge indeed!

Samira Reddy's last

Samira Reddy's fate is dependant on Ashok. Already known as the iron leg in the industry no producer is willing to take her for her manly looks. A producer who doesnt wish to be named says, she lacks the grace and delicacy that is needed for a south indian actress. After Jai Chiranjeeva flopped, none were willing to take her and she got this film solely on NTR's demand or request. Now if the film flops, NTR can't demand another film for her. But if it is a hit, he will start telling producers to take her again.

NTR's potshot at Pawan Kalyan

In Ashok, Samira Reddy is scared of NTR but later likes him when he helps a handicapped boy by lifting him in a temple. So all he says to her is, "you girls dont believe if we say we love. you will be convinced only when someone helps some blind man or a lepper or if someone comes in suddenly to stop the diya ( deepam)from blowing away. GOOD

Story.

Prakash Raj works in a registration office where marraiges are conducted. He lives with his wife and daughter, and his estranged son (NTR) is a mechanic. He drives him away from home as he thinks his son is always indulging in street fights despite warnings. What actually makes him take the difficult decision is when Prakash Raj's mother has a heart attack and when NTR is driving her to the hospital, the goons who were a victim of his trashing turn up with their gang, obstruct their way leading to the old woman's death.

The film opens with a man coughing up blood and ends with more gore and violence. The first half throws light on the bitter rivalry between two gangs who are trying to upstage each other and contest elections. NTR comes in unconsciously beating up one gang diverting their enemity to him. So suddenly you fail to understand as to where the film is leading . There is lack of clarity and coherence. And slowly the story falls on track. Samira Reddy is a classical dancer and she gets noticed by Soon Sood the eldest goon. He wants to marry but by then NTR has already fallen for her.

Sonu Sood at the behest of his mother tries to use Samira's brother Raghu Babu as a pawn. A part of the plan is bridging differences between the hero and his father and sending NTR away to Delhi. Meanwhile Soonu Sood approaches Raghu Babu for an engagement with his sister and Samira runs away. Rajiv Kanakala who plays the role of NTR's friend is killed while saving Samira and his death helps in bringing NTR back to the city. NTR who all the while is unaware of the reason for Samira's absence and Rajiv Kanakala's death has resolved to finish them. The second half of the film brings back interest and the climax though predictable makes good viewing.

Performances--

NTR looks good and handsome in this film except his physique. He has ti reduce his weight at least for his forth coming film Raakhi. He is perfectly maintained his emotions during action scene and sentimental scenes. Silent action by NTR is appreciable. He proved himself a good dancer again with this film.

Sameera Reddy- Samira Reddy doesn't suit the role at all as a demure and coy girl. She lacks grace and finesse of a heroine. She very much disappoints NTR’s fans.Her introduction scene puts one off and all the scenes relating to her and NTR don't fit in basically because the dialogues written for them don't suit their age and looks. The romantic track is not for them. The only thing worth mentioning about Samira is her stinging slap on Sonu Sood's mother.

Rajiv Kanakala played the role Ashok’s friend and has done justice to his role.

Sonu Sood has played the role of Villain; it is regular villain’s role that appears in every Telugu film.

Director--Surender Reddy has handled direction department in perfect manner but script is not up to the mark. He is very much succeeded in presenting NTR in entire different mood. Though the film looks like an action film, we don’t feel much action in the film. Director has lost grip over script and even dialogues are not up to the mark.

The films lacks entertainment and Venu Madhav is the only saving grace. The few minutes he appears is amusing but one expected more from him. At the recent audio function he said he gets beaten by the hero like in his

Music by Manisarma is already proved in the market. It will be memorable albums for Jr NTR .Lyrics by Chandra Bose is excellent. He has given some meaning full melodies for this film. The song 'Ekanthnga vunna Endari lo Vunna..' is very good and Karunya sung with fresh mood.Though many songs cater to the class audiences the last song in the film 'Nacchale nacchale" is a complete mass entertainer and shows the actor's skill in dancing.

Senthi Kumar- has done excellent job with camera. The whole film was shot on the expensive Super 35MM format and used Digital grading for this film. Film appears technically sound.

Finally, The classes might not take too much violence but it is a sure fire winner from the word go for the other section audiences. The film will have average collections but might go onto be a hit if there are no big films coming in the next few weeks.

Expectations from fans of Jr NTR are high and the film releasing after 4 successive (Andhrawala, Sambha, Naa Alludu and Narshimhudu) failures from Jr NTR. The film is made with huge budget Rs 18crores.

NTR’s fans might satisfy to full extent as the film is far better than his last four films. Film definitely makes a mark at B & C centers and it will be an average flick at A centers.
